Brand New Draper Screen Surface: TecVision, 4K Ready

Draper have introduced a great new projector screen surface that is completely unique in that the surface is formulated for each individual screen. For the full lowdown, here is their press release:

draperlogo

(Spiceland, Ind.) – In recent years projectors and projection technology have been advancing quickly. Draper is taking projection screen technology another step into the future at Integrated Systems Europe 2014 with the creation of TecVision Engineered Surface Technology. Available in five exclusive formulations to start, TecVision features white surfaces with gains ranging from 1.3 to 1.9 over remarkably wide viewing cones, and grey surfaces with excellent performance under higher room light levels.

“There are few companies in the world who are experts in designing projection screen surfaces,” according to Draper company president John Pidgeon. “Most screen fabrics are made by firms whose primary business is manufacturing textiles for other purposes. We’ve made a major investment in equipment, expert personnel and research time specifically to offer this line of revolutionary new surfaces unmatched by any other screen manufacturer in the world.”

4kReady

TecVision also offers a departure from typical screen production, according to Bob Mathes, AV Market Manager for Draper.

“Utilizing technologically advanced manufacturing methods, proprietary scientific formulations and establishing the highest quality standard, we are prepared to meet the rigorous demands of today’s projectors and the environments in which screens are and will be used,” Mathes says. “Rather than using “mass-production” methods in order to minimize costs, TecVision screens are individually produced; each and every screen surface is individually formulated, programmed, and manufactured with multiple checks for quality, consistency and uniformity from start to finish.”

These premium surfaces are not sold online and are only available through qualified Draper dealers. They are being seen for the first time at Integrated Systems Europe.

“We are pretty excited about TechVision,” says Pidgeon. “These five surfaces are just the start. The sky’s the limit as far as surfaces we can create to match whatever specs require.”

Draper Access Review

Get your Draper Access E or Draper Access V from TheNerds.net today!

Draper Access Series V Electrol Projection ScreenThe Draper Access is a ceiling recessed projection screen that is all about flexibility, to the point where you can install the Access case before you have even decided which projector or projectors you are going to use, what screen surface to get depending on the seating arrangements, and before you just how controllable the light it going to be.

The Access screen allows you to install just the case during the construction or fit-out stage of building and then later fit the screen viewing surface, which contains the motor in the roller, when everything is finished and clean and every aspect of the projection environment has been decided. All you have to know when fitting the case is what the maximum size is that you could possibly want the screen to be and where it is going to go. Once the case is installed you can install any size of screen up to the maximum in just about any of Drapers comprehensive range of screen surfaces.

The Access concept is a well thought out system from Draper and to provide real comprehensiveness to the system the Access screen is available in a number of different series and models, including masking systems, which should cover just about every type of screen installation out there.

Manual Models:

Series M

Access

Motorized Models:

Series E – standard tensioned, provided by weighted dowel

Access

Ultimate Access – complete motorized closure, for full concealment of the screen when not in use

Access MultiView – features an independently motorized masking system, for dual format projection

Series V – tab tensioned screen, for faithful image reproduction

Access

Ultimate Access – complete motorized closure, for full concealment of the screen when not in use

Access MultiView – features an independently motorized masking system, for dual format projection

Viewing Surfaces

You can get an Access screen to fit into your preinstalled Access case in just about any surfaces that Draper make:

All models/Series E & M are available in;

  • Matt White
  • Glass Beaded
  • High Contrast Grey
  • AT1200
  • AT Grey

All models/Series V are available in;

  • M1300
  • M2500
  • HiDef
  • Cineflex, Drapers rear projection surface

To explain what each of the surfaces do and which one would be suitable for your particular projection environment, here is Draper’s explanation of each surface:

Matt White—Diffuses projected light in all directions, so image can be seen from any angle. Has accurate color rendition and superior clarity. Requires control of ambient light in the audience area. Washable, flame and mildew resistant.

Glass Beaded—Spherical glass beads embedded in surface provide brighter on-axis viewing than Matt White, within a narrower viewing cone. Glass Beaded surfaces have some loss of clarity and perform best with table-mounted projectors. Flame and mildew resistant. Cannot be cleaned. Seamless in standard sizes through 10´ high.

High Contrast Grey—Grey surface offers excellent resolution while enhancing blacks, even as whites and lighter colors are maintained. Performs well in ambient light. Lower gain of 0.8 allows use with even the brightest projectors. Seamless in sizes up to 8´ in height.

AT1200 and AT Grey—Similar in gain performance to Matt White, with acoustical properties comparable to the finest speaker grille cloth. Washable, flame and mildew resistant. Available in sizes through 72˝ x 96˝ or 10´ NTSC diagonal. AT1200 is white; AT Grey is grey for high contrast. Acoustically transparent fabrics are not recommended for screens smaller than 80˝ wide when used with LCD or DLP projectors.

M1300—The perfect Matt White diffusing surface. For use with any type of projector in rooms where light can be reasonably controlled. Washable.

M2500—A high-contrast front viewing surface with excellent resolution and high gain. M2500 tolerates a higher ambient light level than most other front projection screen surfaces.

HiDef Grey—A grey front projection surface that provides excellent contrast and black reproduction with a low gain to handle today’s super-bright projectors. Enhances color contrast, black levels and allows for more ambient light.

Cineflex—A neutral grey vinyl for rear projection. Cineflex has high resolution and excellent contrast, even in lighted rooms. For use with any type of projection equipment. Lower Gain version of Cineflex is also available with peak gain of 0.8.

Draper Access Series E Electrol Projection ScreenScreen Sizes & Formats

Once the decision of which screen surface has been made you need to figure out what format the screen should be and how big or small it should be. Draper Baronet Projection Screen Review

Get your Baronet screen from TheNerds.net today.

The Baronet screen from Draper can be described by just one word: easy. This has to be one of the easiest electric projector screens to install, it’s compact and there is absolutely no need for an electrician, how easy is that?

The Baronet comes in an attractive white case, has a three position controller which is in-line in the power lead and the end caps double as universal mounting brackets which enable you to mount the screen on a wall, suspend it from hooks in the ceiling or if you are going after an out-of-the-way look the whole thing can be recessed in the ceiling. So if you are looking for a screen that can be put just about anywhere and is a cinch to install then the Baronet is a great place to start.

If your ceiling is unusually high or you want to mount it high on a wall you can get the Baronet with extra drop, this is extra ‘material’ that is inserted above the screens viewing surface so that the image you are looking at is at a comfortable level. This extra drop can be either white or black to suite your situation and can be up to eight foot in overall height.

The Baronet is available in a great range of Draper sizes and formats:

Draper Baronet Electrol Projection Screen

  • 1:1 / AV Format from 50˝ x 50˝ to 96˝ x 96˝

  • 16:10 Format from 67˝ to 109˝ diagonal
  • 1.85:1 / WideScreen Format in 99˝ or 108˝ diagonal

Once you have decided which format is appropriate for where you are installing the screen and the predominant type of media you are going to be projecting, the next choice is which screen surface is going to work best in your environment and yield you the best image and the most flexibility in terms of seating. The Baronet comes in the following Draper surfaces:

  • Matt White
  • Glass Beaded
  • High Contrast Grey

To provide a greater explanation on what each of these screen surfaces is good for, here is some more detail:

Matt White — Diffuses projected light in all directions, so image can be seen from any angle. Has accurate color rendition and superior clarity. Requires control of ambient light in the audience area. Washable, flame and mildew resistant.

High Contrast Grey — Grey surface offers excellent resolution while enhancing blacks, even as whites and lighter colors are maintained. Performs well in ambient light. Lower gain of 0.8 allows use with even the brightest projectors. Seamless in sizes up to 8´ in height.

The Draper Luma 2 is a hefty-duty wall/ceiling projection display screen built entirely of hefty gauge components for a long time of reliable operation and is now obtainable in 16:10 as well as 15:9 laptop display formats. Then if you are realling going for an out of the way look you can also get the Ceiling Opening Trim Kit so the Luma 2 can be tucked away in the.

There are plenty more option available on the Luma 2 including Extra Drop and Black Masking Borders, but the most exciting one that most people end up going with is the AutoReturn Roller. Draper actually have a patent pending on the AutoReturn, and for some more detail here is what it does in Drapers own words:

The AutoReturn Spring Roller includes a built-in inertia reduction mechanism. With AutoReturn the screen unrolls in the conventional manner, then slowly and gently retracts to the closed position on its own after a simple tug on the handle. Screen surface retracts slowly and smoothly into the case, slowing even more as it approaches its upper limit. Intermediate stop positions allow you to lower or raise the screen completely, or stop at any point in between. Prevents potential damage to the dowel or screen surface through repeated impact with the case. Patent Pending.

What are SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates, and what do they mean to you?

These certificates are issued by a number of institutions, such as VeriSign, Equifax & GoDaddy, and they provide a secure connection between your computer and the computer that is running the checkout you are using. They verify the identity of the remote computer to you, so you know that the site you are using is who they say they are, and proves they are a trusted retailer and not someone trying to steal your credit card details. And it provides your identity to the remote computer, so they know you are not someone trying to hack into their checkout. Then as the data is being sent back and forth over the internet, the SSL certificate encrypts the data, so that no one can “listen in” to the data packets and pinch your credit card details.

All in all it provides you with the necessary peace of mind to purchase online, by ensuring everything is as it appears to be.
