Without further ado, their press release for a full explanation of that ViewShare offers:

WARSAW, IN – February 4, 2014 – While there are many excellent solutions for high-end video conferencing, there are not any easy and inexpensive solutions that allow users to interact using peer-to-peer software, such as Lync or Skype, on a large team-to-team scale. Da-Lite will unveil for the first time in Europe during ISE a new technology that fills this gap. ViewShare® Technology creates a new category for the video conferencing market.

SkypeLyncLogo

ViewShare Technology brings teams together with the free peer to peer software they are already using. ViewShare integrates a HD video camera directly into the weight bar of the Tensioned Advantage® Electrol® projection screen, bringing the capability to turn every conference room into a room for face-to-face brainstorming and document-sharing in real time. ViewShare also includes a tabletop speaker and microphone. Once the product is installed, users can quickly and easily share their screen and make a call by plugging in a USB cord to their computer.

“Face-to-face meetings are ideal, and tend to be more productive than conference calls. But most organizations have a limited number of meeting spaces with video conferencing capabilities,” said Melissa Rone, Senior Marketing Manager. “With a growing number of employees working remotely or from satellite offices, Da-Lite ViewSare Technology fills a gap in the market between a high-end video conferencing system and a personal computer or smart device. The simple installation and plug and play USB connectivity make it the logical choice for all the other meeting spaces in an organization.”

Other benefits of ViewShare include the ability to conceal the camera in the ceiling when it isn’t in use, and a retrofit model that allows older Advantage Projection Screens to be updated with a new format, HD surface and functionality.  The Da-Lite camera screen will feature all the benefits and projection screen surface options of a Tensioned Advantage Electrol including a plenum rating. Every Da-Lite surface is a proprietary formula, and is designed to help customers achieve the best picture possible for their image.

Da-Lite ViewShare Bringing Projector Screens Into the Face-to-Face Era

JViewShare2ust because you have a projector and a nice big fancy projector screen doesn’t mean you have to forgo a face-to-face chat or conference on Skype or Lync.

Da-Lite have come up with the perfect solution to allow you to interact with life size people right on your projector screen, without having the fork out for super expensive high-end video conferencing equipment, they call it simply: ViewShare.

What Da-Lite have done it stuck a HD video camera into the bar at the bottom of the screen that provides all the weight to keep the screen surface taught and flat so you get a nice acurate image.

Lets hear from Da-Lite’s Senior Marketing Manager, Melissa Rone on what this new ViewShare technology is able to facilitate:

“Face-to-face meetings are ideal, and tend to be more productive than conference calls. But most organizations have a limited number of meeting spaces with video conferencing capabilities,”

Da-Lite so far offers the ViewShare technology on two screens:

  • Tensioned Advantage Electrol
  • Advantage Electrol

And they also have a retrofit kits for both of these screens, if you already have one and are keen to get the ViewShare cam.

One of the great features is that the cam is completely concealed as it rolls away into the case just like the screen, completely out of view, and sticky fingers that can easily muck up the lens.

Obviously there is a lot more to both versions of the Advantage projector screen, read up on all the details here:

Da-Lites HD Webcam for Projector Screen Conferencing

ViewShareSo what ViewShare does is enables you to use Skype on your projector screen, for a life-like chat by mounting a HD cam into the bottom of the screen. It then has a tabletop mic and speaker to round out the system for a complete out-of-the-box conferencing solution that plus into your computer via a USBcable. All you have to do it turn your projector, lower the screen, plus in the USB cable and your away, life size people to interact with and have a productive chat.

The best part is that Da-Lite doesn’t lump you with some clunky, underdeveloped conferencing software. They left that up to the people that are already doing it the best: Lync and Skype. It doesn’t matter which of the two popular systems your using, or any other chat system for that matter, you just plug in the ViewShare USB and Skype and Lync will just recognize it as a normal webcam and away you go.

Now for some succinct corporate speak lets hear from Melissa Rone, Senior Marketing Manager for Da-Lite: “With a growing number of employees working remotely or from satellite offices, Da-Lite ViewSare Technology fills a gap in the market between a high-end video conferencing system and a personal computer or smart device. The simple installation and plug and play USB connectivity make it the logical choice for all the other meeting spaces in an organization.”

How do you get ViewShare and what screens does it come in, you might be asking at this point. Well at the moment it only comes in two models the normal and the tensioned Advantage Electrol projector screens. For a full write up on each make sure you check out our comprehensive reviews:

Advantage Electrol Review

Advantage Electrol Projection Screen Featuring Concealed Ceiling Installation

Get your Advantage Electrol from MountsAndMore.com today.

Rough-In

The Advantage Electrol screen from Da-Lite is designed to be an out-of-the-way type screen being fully mounted in the ceiling, to the point where it even has a UL Plenum Rated case. Designed to be part of the “equation” before construction starts, the case for the Advantage can be installed into the ceiling during the rough-in stage of building, and then the fabric assembly can be installed once all the construction has been completed.

As the Da Lite Advantage Electrol is meant to look at-home in the ceiling, the aluminum case is finished in white, making it blend in equally well with ceiling tiles or gyprock/plasterboard. So whether you are looking for a hidden screen install for your home or office the Advantage will fit in nicely.

And the discreetness of the Advantage does not stop there, Da-Lite have equipped this particular screen with their patented in-the-roller motor mounting system, which ensures quiet operation at all times. But if you need even more discretion, there are options; you can get two different silent motors, one with integrated Low Voltage Control and one without, more on the options later.

Screen Shapes & Surfaces

When it comes to the surface and shape of your new DaLite Advantage Electrol, funnily enough there are four choices in both departments. As for the shape, aspect ratio or as Da-Lite like to call it, format, the choices are:

  • 1.33 or 4:3, in Da-Lite lingo: “Video Format”
  • 1.78 or 16:9, in Da-Lite speak: “HDTV Format”
  • 1.6 or 16:10, in Da-Lite lingo: “Wide Format”
  • 1:1, in Da-Lite speak: “Square or AV Format”

While you probably know what shape screen you want, as that is largely dictated by the type of projector you have, the size, while dependant on the size of the room and range of seating positions is certainly not a hard and fast choice. The Advantage is available in sizes ranging from 72” to 200” and changes with the four screen surfaces, which are:

  • Matte White
  • High Contrast Matte White
  • Video Spectra 1.5
  • High Power

Now short manufacturers names are great, but what do they actually mean, and which one is going to be able to overcome the particular issues in your projection environment to help you get the best quality image, every time? Well to give you a better idea on what each of the surfaces are good for, here is some more detail:

Matte White

One of the most versatile screen surfaces and a good choice for situations when presentation material is being projected and ambient light is controllable. Its surface evenly distributes light over a wide viewing area. Colors remain bright and life-like, with no shifts in hue. Flame retardant and mildew resistant. Viewing Angle: 60° Gain: 1.0

High Contrast Matte White

Designed for moderate output DLP and LCD projectors. This screen surface is a great choice when video images are the main source of information being projected and where ambient light is moderately controlled. With its specially designed gray base material and reflective top surface, this screen material is able to provide very good black levels without sacrificing the white level output. Flame retardant and mildew resistant. Viewing Angle: 50° Gain: 1.1

Video Spectra 1.5

This screen surface is specially designed with a reflective coating, which provides an increased amount of brightness with a moderately reduced viewing angle. The increased gain of this surface makes it suitable for environments where ambient lighting is uncontrollable and a projector with moderate light output is utilized. Flame retardant and mildew resistant. Viewing Angle: 35° Gain: 1.5

High Power

A technological breakthrough, providing the reflectivity and optical characteristics of a traditional glass beaded surface with the ability to clean the surface when necessary. Its smooth textured surface provides the highest gain of all front projection screen surfaces with no resolution loss. The moderate viewing angle and its ability to reflect light back along the projection axis make this surface the best choice for situations where there is a moderate amount of ambient light and the projector is placed on a table-top or in the same horizontal viewing plane as the audience. Flame retardant and mildew resistant. Viewing Angle: 30° Gain: 2.4
